Santiago Zardain has extensive experience in financing and M&A related to infrastructure projects, providing advice in different stages of their development, including the negotiation of power purchase agreements, construction and operation contracts, and land and supply contracts, among others. Moreover, Santiago is an expert in the analysis and consultancy of various legal and regulatory matters related to electricity, gas transportation, and infrastructure development in general, as well as the drafting and negotiation of civil, commercial, and administrative contracts.
Prior to joining the firm, Santiago was part of the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (Federal Electricity Commission), in the context of the 2013 Energy Reform, where he worked, among others, on the development and negotiation of electricity supply and coverage contracts, energy import and export agreements, as well as regulatory analysis and consultancy on the subject.
Represented Credit Agricole CIB and a syndicate of banks, in a USD$440 million financing to Terminal Química Puerto México, a subsidiary of Braskem Idesa, for the development, construction, operation and maintenance of an ethane storage and transportation system in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico.
Represented Grupo México in the acquisition and financing for the development, construction and operation of a 168 MW wind powered electric generation facility in the States of Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, México.
Participated in the negotiation of power coverage agreements for the acquisition by a qualified supplier of more than 1.6 GW of power and electricity.
Participated in the negotiation of agreements for the acquisition of more than 1.2 million clean energy certificates (CEL).
Participated in the negotiation of power supply agreements for more than 600 MW before several qualified users.
Participated in several contractual negotiations to carry out import and export power transactions with the United States, Guatemala and Belize electric systems.
Collaborated in the negotiation of representation agreements of exempt generators (generadores exentos) before the Mexican wholesale electricity market.
