Oscar A. López Velarde joined the firm as a partner in 2017.

He advises companies operating in Mexico and Latin America, focusing on capital structuring and project financing in the real estate, financial, energy, oil and gas, and infrastructure sectors. His practice includes the structuring of private equity funds, mergers and acquisitions, structure financing projects, the design of new financial products, and capital markets transactions.

In addition, Oscar represents taxpayers in disputes with tax authorities, including audits, mediation, arbitration, and litigation, developing strategic solutions that integrate legal and financial perspectives.

Relevant Experience

  • Represented BHP Billiton in the first ever Pemex farm out of block Trion.
  • Represented Hines in the negotiation and structuring of a JV with bcIMC for the development of real estate projects.
  • Represented Nexxus Capital in the structuring of its public mezzanine debt fund. Represented Credit Suisse Securities (USA), as initial buyer in Vista Oil & Gas’ initial public offering, which was the first ever Mexican Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) and the first oil and gas company listed in the Mexican Stock Exchange.
  • Represented Ivanhoé Cambridge in the negotiation and structuring of a joint venture with Black Creek and CKD Banamex for the development of real estate projects.
  • Represented Glencore in the design and incorporation of its Mexican fuels trading structure and its JV with G500.
  • Represented CCLA, a partnership between CIM and Compass, in the negotiation and structuring of a joint venture with GIC for the development of a multifamily real estate portfolio.
  • Represented HSBC Taiwan, as underwriter in the Federal Electricity Commission’s USD$750 million first ever bond placement in Taiwan Fromosa market.
  • Represented Deutsche Bank in certain controversy procedures in connection with the taxation of cross currency swaps.
  • Represented Thor Urbana in the acquisition of the Marina Town Center, a 45,000 square meter marina complex, and in the negotiation of a long term holding structure with its partner PSP.
  • Represented Grupo Diavaz in the migration of Ebano and Miquetla’s integral exploration and production service contracts (CIEPs).
